Sydney will get a new public library designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma as part of the $3.4 billion redevelopment of Darling Harbour, is his first project in Australia. The City of Sydney has signed a deal with developer Lendlease to take two floors, covering 2,225 square metres, of the six storey building for a new library space to replace the existing Haymarket library, which is just a quarter of the size of the new site. >>> |

Heatherwick Studio has revealed the design for the first school project in the practice's history. Situated in Tokyo, The British School seeks to be the largest international school in the city. The 16,000-square-foot scheme is spread across eight levels and features several landscaped outdoor learning and recreational spaces including on upper floors. The design team imagine the cascading outdoor spaces as social areas where teachers can work with the school's 800 pupils, with planted balconies to be cared for by students. >>> |
