Lio Market Hall by CAZA Architects, El Nido, Philippines |
|
The Lio Market Hall takes the traditional "Ifugao" aesthetic of the salakot hat and multiplies it into a field. The result is a recognizable visual pattern for the town that provides shelter for a spectrum of community events unfolding beneath its roof. The ground plane stitches together the commercial strip and the natural mangrove park through a layering of wooden horizontal surfaces to facilitate circulation and the changing needs of market-based occupation. The muted tone of the roof structure draws the viewer's attention beyond the architecture toward the vibrant colors of the landscape it inhabits. |
