Alsace architecture, France (Video clip)
A crucial element of most traditional Alsace houses is wood. Stone is more predominantly used in the neighbouring mountain regions
and in certain parts of Alsace, where the construction techniques of neighbouring Lorraine have had an influence.
Houses in the Alsace plains traditionally have an enclosed courtyard not directly accessible from the street and are traditionally positioned next to each other, forming almost neverending streets. Houses in the Outre-Foret and Sundgau areas of Alsace posess open courtyards and are of a monobloc construction style.
