Some of the most important examples of architecture in Pakistan are the nation’s mosques,
many of which are decorated with geometric patterns covering the floors, walls, and surrounding the doorways. Pakistan’s ancient architecture is dominated by tombs and religious shrines.
Pakistan is also renowned for its modern architecture. In 1958, Pakistan decided to move its capital from Karachi to a new city that would be called Islamabad, or “City of Islam”. With the city's skyline like a blank canvas, some of the most famous modern architects went to work designing a wide range of buildings, from sleek, low-slung marble buildings to skyscrapers.
