| Major carbon neutral development for London |

This competition-winning masterplan will convert a three hectare site in East Greenwich into London's first major carbon neutral development, providing much-needed homes for families while restoring the area's civic core. Make was appointed to work on the scheme by urban regeneration developers, First Base.
Designed to achieve an exemplary degree of social, economic and environmental sustainability, the Heart of East Greenwich masterplan is set around a generous new public square framed by a Civic Building containing a swimming pool, library, health centre and education facilities. Shops, cafes and restaurant units at the ground levels of surrounding buildings will bring additional activity to the space. A total of 645 new homes are to be created specifically for families and key workers. The homes are arranged to create secure and welcoming neighbourhood streets and communal squares which echo traditional street patterns.
Environmental sustainability has been fundamental to the design development process and the scheme meets the GLA’s exacting standards for zero carbon emissions. The project aims to be a national exemplar for the creation of a genuinely environmentally-responsible community with buildings designed to minimise environmental impact, reduce water and energy consumption and ultimately to bring new life and a sense of civic focus to the area. |

| It ain't green enough to be called zero carbon emissions. Very small green open space comparing to the building and hard space area. |
