A striking new landmark for Hull
A striking new landmark for Hull
The Albemarle Music Centre by Holder Mathias Architects has opened. This music centre for school children in Hull, UK is a national exemplar of facilities of this kind. The £3m music centre is part of the St Stephen’s regeneration development. Built on three floors, it is home to the music service and more than 600 young musicians who visit each week. The City of Hull music service offers music support to all primary, secondary and special schools in Hull and also to further education colleges.

Albemarle includes an auditorium that is large enough to accommodate a full-size symphony orchestra. It has retractable raked seating for 164 people and seating for a further 80 is available when the stage alone is being used for a performance. Chris Hall of Holder Mathias Architects said: “The Albemarle Music Centre is a jewel in the St Stephen’s scheme. We have worked alongside the City of Hull and our client, ING Real Estate Development to create a building that will serve schools in the area well, and be something of which the people of Hull will be proud.”
